Tamron Article

Tamron, a company that manufactures a great line of lenses asked me to work with them on an article on astrophotography because of the newest comet, Comet Holmes. Here is the url:

Comet Holmes

An interesting new comet that has become very bright. This shot is a stack of nine exposures with a Canon 20D and a Tamron 180mm F/2.5 lens at 400 ISO and three minute subs. I had the assistance of my brother in law Ted and my friend, Sheldon.

Nearly Full Moon

Here is a shot of the moon taken with a Tamron 200-500mm zoom at 500mm with a Canon 5D. The image is enlarged 100% and shows that the moon actually has some subtle color.

Butterfly Pictures

Today was a good day for butterflies and even though I had a rather strange photo setup (70-300mm zoom lens on my Canon 5D), I was able to fire off a few good pix.

M51 The Whirlpool Galaxy

Last night was pretty warm but I managed to get to image one of the more popular galaxies in the sky. It resides in Ursa Major. The is just the luminance or black and white version. The color picture will follow soon enough.

M81 Bode's Nebula

This is my first attempt at a galaxy with my new SBIG ST8 camera. The exposure was nearly five hours through a 10" newtonian telescope. Looking forward to getting better at this and losing sleep in the process.

New Owl Pix

Only one of the two owlets is left. They both tried to fly and only one was able to make it. The other smaller owlet hit the ground and was taken to animal rescue. Click on the shots to make them bigger and look for the spider crawling on his head.

More Owl Shots

More pictures of the Great Horned Owlets

Owlets

Two owl chicks were discovered in a nest on the grounds of a local health facility. The two great horned owlets aren't excited about being out during the day, but did enough to allow me to take a few pictures.

Orlando Barred Owl Closeup

Here is another picture of the Owl that was taken before the other photo. This is how he looked when we first saw him.

Orlando Barred Owl

We were on a nature walk in Orlando and walked right by this owl. In fact we were close enough that I was able to take this picture with my G7.

Telephoto Moon

i was curious to see what a hand held shot of the moon with an image stabilized zoom would look like compared to photographs taken through a telescope. This shot was made with a Sigma 80-400mm OS lens at 400mm wide open and hand held.

Wake me? WHY?

Casio can sleep through quite a bit, but when he wakes up, he is not always happy about it.

A close up of an egret that shows a gleam of sunlight that past through its eye.

Key's Iguana

On a nature walk we ran into this Iguana who didn't seem to be bothered by our presence at all.

A stack of images of the Comet

I used six images to stack for this combined image of Comet McNaught.

Comet McNaught

Here's an image of a very bright comet with the photo processed to show the tail.
